K & L Do High Point Market

A little birdie told us this year’s market set record sales for a number of our favorite vendors, and we can definitely see why! We were overwhelmed by market, sprawling 11.5 million square feet of show-space, jam-packed with the absolute most gorgeous furnishings, textiles, accessories, and talented interior designers.

As an old favorite of ours, it was no surprise that Global Views’ showroom was a super stunner! This Global Views acrylic chair was style spotted originally by Gary Inman, but it seemed like everyone at market quickly followed suit, snapping pictures of this exquisite piece for social media. It was certainly an Instagram favorite, and certainly one of ours! You can keep up with them on Instagram here: http://instagram.com/globalviews

Jaipur Rugs has, yet again, taken design to the next level: conducting an awesome exercise, incorporating a social media giveaway into their showroom shopping. By tagging photos of your favorite products in their showroom #designwithmeaning, you were entered to win products from their new lines and learned more about their amazing organization, which we always encourage everyone to do. We also discovered some new gems! (New to us, at least!) Once we sat down in new Natuzzi recliners, we sat for quite a while. We probably missed some other amazing showrooms in the process, but we were Revived and Natuzzi’s catchphrase preached truth to us: Love Doing Nothing. So do nothing, we did! Check out the whole new line of Revive recliners here: http://instagram.com/natuzzirevive

Besides the fabulous recliners and accent chairs, some of the most stunning pieces at market this year were light fixtures. Luna Bella and Worlds Away had some pieces that really make you double take. Our eyes were glued to the ceiling of the Luna Bella showroom – Their new installation was transfixing.

Worlds Away’s chandelier game was also on point this year! Worlds Away has a way of making heavy gold fixtures feel intimate and delicate. Go Gold with World’s Away and keep up with them on Instagram: http://instagram.com/worldsaway1

We were able to mine all of market’s hidden gems to find the perfect media consoles and accent table for any taste at Bungalow5 and Gabby Home. Gabby Home was full of fun, funky, boho chic modern pieces, certain to be the center of a conversation. Bungalow5 had the most perfect, tasteful, classical, understated pieces on which to display their fabulous accessories! Bungalow5 was also a popular showroom for style spotting – The table pictured below was originally style-spotted by Style Spotter Jeanne Chung who runs this fabulous blog: http://www.cozystylishchic.com/

First Class at Lexington

We just wrapped up our five-star Design Camp Breakfast at the grand Lexington Showroom and we couldn’t help ourselves, so we toured the three level facility and found some fantastic new products that we know our Campers will LOVE!

We have to start off with the new Carrera line since Lexington was so nice to make these stylish notebooks for our Campers with the fabric used for this line. Now we can sit in their fabulous seating with our matching notebook! Gray and black are killing it this season and the Carrera line did an amazing job mixing metallic gray finishes to their sleek and contemporary Design.

lexLex - Modena Table

Of course we were also drawn to Sligh’s new Bel Aire line. Lori and Kelli have made themselves quite comfortable! It’s all glamour and sophistication translated to their home office and media room designs.

Lets move outside! We continue to see exterior spaces resemble interior spaces and Lexington’s partnership with Tommy Bahama is no exception. The detail on the seating of this living room set is something you would see in your living room. Just another way vendors like Lexington are making your home bigger by maximizing your outdoor space.

Parlore – Interior Design Streamlined

We are constantly trying to find the latest and greatest for our Campers so we were thrilled when we partnered with this phenomenal new company, Parlore. If you are unfamiliar with Parlore, they should definitely be on your radar.  Especially since they are giving designers three months free to test their site!

So, what is Parlore? Essentially, it’s a personalized iOS app for interior design professionals that feature an easy-to-use project management system, exclusive trend projections and custom editorial and a marketplace that connects designers directly to manufacturers.

Parlore

Why do you need it? Think about all the paper work and data entry and management of client expectations.  Daunting isn’t it?  Well this app can give you the resources and support to navigate the interior design landscape and the tools to more easily manage projects.  No brainer!

It’s always exciting to partner with great vendors in the industry but we also love partnering with companies who are making our interior design business better. Inside Jaipur

We are not only lucky to have wonderful sponsors like Jaipur host our Design Camp at High Point Market, but we are also ridiculously in love with what they have coming out for all of us this fall. Jaipur, who recently made the top 500 from Inc Magazine, has a lot going on with their new introductions and charity foundation.

Let’s start with some designs we are loving this fall. As the leaves begin to turn orange, or for us Southern Californians who are pretending the seasons have changed, you can’t help but navigate toward some warmer hues. This rug under their blue collection perfectly brings out the yellow and brown accessories in the room.  Or you can also try this Peacock blue rug from the same collection that provides the same fall feel by using different colors.

We are also excited about the new tribal inspired rugs that are sure to be a hit at High Point Market. You can use it for your indoor or outdoor spaces, or both!

The other thing we love about Jaipur is their kind heart. Mr. Chaudhary founded the Jaipur Rugs Foundation that is helping over 40,000 artisans build their capacity to earn higher wages.  It is such a powerful association and we applaud Jaipur for all the work they have done for the people in India.

We can’t wait to see everything that Jaipur has in store for us at High Point Market and beyond excited to have our Design Camp in their showroom. It’s a win, win!  See you there!

Design Camp Las Vegas “… a Hit!”

Hi Lori & Kelli!

Your event was outstanding and I’m in awe of you both as I can only imagine the logistics that went in to orchestrating an event of this magnitude.  The speakers were fabulous and I was able to take away invaluable nuggets from each and every one of them!  Your energy was contageous and I could feel how everyone in the room was instantly infused by that electricity.

Look forward to speaking with you soon!

Best,
Lori

Design Camp at LV market

August 3, 2014   Barefoot Musings

Its been such a fun and exciting week in the world of Interior Design on the west coast. This week I got to go to my first Design Camp at Las Vegas Summer Market. I’d heard a lot of good things about Design Camp and was excited to take part in this special event. If you are at all considering attending a future one, I encourage you to do so. You will not be disappointed.

Lori and Kelli getting the day started.

Lori and Kelli getting the day started.

Kelli Ellis and Lori Dennis have put together something that the design community has needed for years! a two day event packed with educational and inspirational speakers all designed to take your practice to the next level. Nice work ladies! As someone who’s been practicing design for nearly, um, 20 years. (Yes, I said 20) I wasn’t sure what design camp could teach me. But to my surprise I was both educated and inspired. From Bill Indursky’s fun presentation on current design trends, to Susanne Salk’s industry insights into how to get work published, to the brilliant Adam Japko’s talk on social media and marketing.

Design camp is also an opportunity to meet and connect with hundreds of designers from all around the country as well as discover great new market introductions from some of our favorite brands like Orient Express, Noir, Made Goods, Interlude Home, Lexington, Global Views, Lamps Plus, and others… Scavenger hunts, games, giveaways, parties, and educational workshops. Priceless.

Rona and I at Orient Express. Great furniture. Great people.

I sincerely feel blessed to have been included and look forward to taking part in future Design Camps. You’re never too old to learn a new thing or two.

Thanks ladies!

Good times in Las Vegas

…[T]hank you Kelli and Lori for the opportunity to participate in this. You managed to create something that was epic but organized, professional but fun, and to generate a real sense of group camaraderie, which is so often the special sauce missing from a lot of these events. Well done! I miss Design Camp already. :, (

Best,
Henry

Hello Kelli and Lori… I just wanted to take a moment while everything was fresh in my mind to tell you how inspired I was by this week. The speaker lineup was fantastic and I took copious notes the entire time. Some of my favorites were:

  • Bill Indursky, I won the web site development and can’t wait to get my site up and running.
  • Aaron Danzig on positioning your brand and point of differentiation
  • Roger Thomas’s incredible images and design process
  • Kimberley Seldon’s dynamic “Business of Design” presentation where I probably learned the most and YES bought her books
  • Katy Garrett’s Tech panel. I’m following up with Ross Barlett to learn more about his product and think I found my drawing solution.
  • Chris Kennedy’s passionate furniture presentation.
  • Phil Pallen’s humorous and hilariously funny approach to Twitter, and YES bought his book too.
The other amazing thing about this week were the amazing people in attendance and the sharing and networking that took place. This is a career change for me and I met some amazing people who gave me confidence in my abilities and have volunteered to be there offering their assistance if I have any questions or doubts. Our little round table group is even planning a weekly call to inspire each other.
Thank You again for a fantastic week. I look forward to the next Design Camp.

Thank you again for an amazing camp.  Trisha and I were both blown away by how great this event was.  Such a great group of engaged designers and the event itself was so well organized.  Kudos to both you and Kelli!
