We’re Feelin’ Twenty Six!

theTwentySIX+Logo+jpegWe’ve recently discovered a new gem, we are dying to share with you: From the luxury lifestyle mastermind behind weekly twitter chat #DesignLux and gorgeous editorial content featured in Traditional Home, Dwell On Design, Riviera, comes The Twenty Six, DCoop Media’s new journal for luxury design

Winter+2014

The Twenty Six, holds true to its inspiring positioning statement. Their goal is: to ‘give readers more than just a pretty picture with a vanilla blub, and expand their thinking beyond the normal realm of luxury.’

With just two issues out, they’ve already accomplished that goal and more by engaging readers, by making us feel connected to the interior design community in a way that’s seldom experienced reading editorial magazines.

Currey & Co. Knows How to Party!

Who’s ready to party at Design Camp?! Currey & Company sure is! They’ll be hosting Design Camp’s Welcome Reception & Cocktail Party on January 10, 2015 in their showroom, B1 14-F 10 during Design Camp Atlanta! Which you can register for here!

NewBlue-541-2014

The Welcome Reception will be part of the two day Camp, held at AmericasMart, and will include a showroom tour day at Market and four special guest speakers led by local and national industry experts in niche fields.  We are thrilled to have Currey & Company be our host sponsor for Design Camp Atlanta. Their beautiful showroom at AmericasMart is the perfect venue for our Campers– Plus they know how to throw a party!

If you’re like us, you’re probably familiar with Currey’s jaw-dropping lighting fixtures. Check out some of our favorite table lamps from their Winterthur Collection.

And we certainly have an affinity for  Currey’s antiqued chandelier’s. The corkscrew cables and Spanish gilt finishes give the Montmorenci a distinctly European feel — perfect for a dinning nook in a shabby-chic country kitchen or an old rustic study.

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 3.38.05 PM

The talent of their designers transcends mere light fixtures — Their lamps and chandeliers, though beautiful on their own, become something even more striking when paired with Currey and Co’s accent furniture.

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 3.38.16 PM Their new cocktail tables are delicate, detailed pieces. They debuted over a dozen new occasional tables just last month. Explore for yourself here!

Design Camp at High Point…and Beyond!

We had time to tour ourselves around at this year’s Fall High Point Market, discovering new lines we love and revisiting some of our old favorites. But while we were not running around market, shopping our favorite lines, we were actually working (we promise!).

Our first order of business was a fabulous breakfast hosted by Lexington Home Brands, held in their amazing showroom, which is always a treat in and of it’s self. The turn out was phenomenal! We packed the house with 120 interior designers and had the humbling pleasure of sharing some personal anecdotes, discussing how the community Design Camp creates has been pivotal in helping designers grow their businesses.

Screen Shot 2014-11-04 at 10.01.08 AM

Screen Shot 2014-11-04 at 10.01.59 AM

We also had some fabulous giveaways! It was a highlight of our day to be able to award designer Genevive Roberts from Interiors by Genevive, an expenses-paid trip to the next Design Camp, Las Vegas, compliments of Lexington Home Brands. And check out these custom made notebooks Lexington made for our Campers using the same fabric as their Carrera line.

At Design Camp High Point, there were over 200 Interior Designers in attendance, packed tightly adjacent to the Jaipur Rugs showroom. We discussed the advantages and transparency of charging a flat fee, learned what it takes to earn the title “Best of Houzz,” and had an inspiring discussion with Mary McDonald of Bravo TV’s Million Dollar Decorators. Her new fabric and furniture lines take design to the next level. Her bold, modern-classical aesthetic will surely become an iconic look. We anticipate the day we hear our own clients ask for the “Mary McDonald look” in their homes.
Screen Shot 2014-11-04 at 10.01.42 AM

Jaipur has been incredible to us and to our campers. All of our Design Campers walked away from camp, not only with hand-scribbled notes and tips from the trade, and an overflow of knowledge to process, but also a bunch of swag – Physical Mementos from Parlore, Noir, Caracole, Leftbank, and Tile Bar: reminders of the fabulous community we create and products we discover together at camp.

We’re still in awe about how much our Design Camp community has grown over the past couple years and can’t wait to spoil our Design Campers with more business and design advice from design icons at Design Camp Atlanta during the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market this January! Suzanne Kasler will be headlining Design Camp Atlanta, and you can bet we’ll be sitting there, pens in hand, ready to take notes along side all of our campers.

Design Camp Las Vegas “… a Hit!”

Hi Lori & Kelli!

Your event was outstanding and I’m in awe of you both as I can only imagine the logistics that went in to orchestrating an event of this magnitude.  The speakers were fabulous and I was able to take away invaluable nuggets from each and every one of them!  Your energy was contageous and I could feel how everyone in the room was instantly infused by that electricity.

Look forward to speaking with you soon!

Best,
Lori

Design Camp at LV market

August 3, 2014   Barefoot Musings

Its been such a fun and exciting week in the world of Interior Design on the west coast. This week I got to go to my first Design Camp at Las Vegas Summer Market. I’d heard a lot of good things about Design Camp and was excited to take part in this special event. If you are at all considering attending a future one, I encourage you to do so. You will not be disappointed.

Lori and Kelli getting the day started.

Lori and Kelli getting the day started.

Kelli Ellis and Lori Dennis have put together something that the design community has needed for years! a two day event packed with educational and inspirational speakers all designed to take your practice to the next level. Nice work ladies! As someone who’s been practicing design for nearly, um, 20 years. (Yes, I said 20) I wasn’t sure what design camp could teach me. But to my surprise I was both educated and inspired. From Bill Indursky’s fun presentation on current design trends, to Susanne Salk’s industry insights into how to get work published, to the brilliant Adam Japko’s talk on social media and marketing.

Design camp is also an opportunity to meet and connect with hundreds of designers from all around the country as well as discover great new market introductions from some of our favorite brands like Orient Express, Noir, Made Goods, Interlude Home, Lexington, Global Views, Lamps Plus, and others… Scavenger hunts, games, giveaways, parties, and educational workshops. Priceless.

Rona and I at Orient Express. Great furniture. Great people.

I sincerely feel blessed to have been included and look forward to taking part in future Design Camps. You’re never too old to learn a new thing or two.

Thanks ladies!

…[T]hank you Kelli and Lori for the opportunity to participate in this. You managed to create something that was epic but organized, professional but fun, and to generate a real sense of group camaraderie, which is so often the special sauce missing from a lot of these events. Well done! I miss Design Camp already. :, (

Best,
Henry

Hello Kelli and Lori… I just wanted to take a moment while everything was fresh in my mind to tell you how inspired I was by this week. The speaker lineup was fantastic and I took copious notes the entire time. Some of my favorites were:

  • Bill Indursky, I won the web site development and can’t wait to get my site up and running.
  • Aaron Danzig on positioning your brand and point of differentiation
  • Roger Thomas’s incredible images and design process
  • Kimberley Seldon’s dynamic “Business of Design” presentation where I probably learned the most and YES bought her books
  • Katy Garrett’s Tech panel. I’m following up with Ross Barlett to learn more about his product and think I found my drawing solution.
  • Chris Kennedy’s passionate furniture presentation.
  • Phil Pallen’s humorous and hilariously funny approach to Twitter, and YES bought his book too.
The other amazing thing about this week were the amazing people in attendance and the sharing and networking that took place. This is a career change for me and I met some amazing people who gave me confidence in my abilities and have volunteered to be there offering their assistance if I have any questions or doubts. Our little round table group is even planning a weekly call to inspire each other.
Thank You again for a fantastic week. I look forward to the next Design Camp.

Thank you again for an amazing camp.  Trisha and I were both blown away by how great this event was.  Such a great group of engaged designers and the event itself was so well organized.  Kudos to both you and Kelli!

The team at Selamat offers a unique and flexible array of services. Draw from their in-stock, contract-quality furniture collection if your deadline is tight, or work directly with designers to develop a completely customized solution.

Now that we have covered the details, on to the pretty pictures… Here is the latest addition to the widely popular Tangiers Collection.  Made from Zinc and grey washed plantation grown Mindi, one of the three managed wood resources in Indonesia, this Moorish styled headboard makes a modern statement in a natural way.

The Deco lighting, inspired by humid breezes, comes in natural and white and lights up a room in all the right ways.  Made of rattan core, all of Selamat’s light fixtures come with UL listing.

Here is the ever popular Soren Ventura Lounge Chair, made of sustainable teak.  This piece is right at home with Scandanavian designs of the 1950s and 60s.

A Factory at Your Fingertips

When we design a room, we  want our clients to clearly spot our hand in the design.  If you’re a detail-oriented person (control freak) like us, then there are few things better than custom furniture lines that put their factory at your fingertips. You design it–someone else makes it. Done. Amazing. After experimenting with a handful of custom upholstery lines, we found our absolute favorite: Bassett

CU-PillowsCollageC-SP144000-72TC-CU-SP131000-2000-CUOOTOS-A-SP14

Their custom design program offers a variety of sizes, colors, and finishes–all made to order right here in the USA, and ready in 30 days! The custom colors program offers palettes for bedroom, occasional, and youth–which make the process even more convenient. You can choose from over 650 fabrics and leather to build your own sofa, sectional, chair, ottoman, bed, and pillow.

The HGTV Home Furniture Collection is also made by Bassett and includes bedroom dining, occasional, accents and its own custom upholstery program that we’ve been dying to try out! We love the modernity, coziness, and bold colors of all their furniture that takes simple pieces and turns them into statement pieces.  We’re so excited to see what they have in store for us in Vegas! They’ve even been kind enough to GIVE AWAY one of these awesome “You Design It-We Make It” accent chairs at Design Camp 2014!

Tiny Little Pretty Things

We are both perfectionists, OBSESSED with details. Obsessed–I’m sure many designers can relate. That’s why when we’re designing  a lifestyle that’s elegant and refined we seek out furnishing companies that understand just as well that it’s ALL about the small things. Caracole’ finishes and fabrics, surprisingly styled drawer interiors, and jewelry-inspired hardware is subtle glamour that belongs in everyone’s lives. Everything Caracole is so beautiful and whimsical! We cannot get enough.

Exquisitely styled, The Bees Knees begs to be floated in a room so you can appreciate it from all angles. It’s a glamorous breath of fresh air for your décor.

High quality, unique side tables and accessories that add personality, like the Bubbles side table, are what set Caracole apart. This retro accent table is perfect for those who like to mix styles, finishes, and materials. We’ve seen this piece work in a boho-shabby-chic Venice beach house, and just as well in a Manhattan penthouse.

French Connection takes a chapter from the pages of fashion with its ombre Taupe Silver Leaf finish. The  custom-designed ginko-leaf hardware and linen-inspired damask pattern on the drawer interiors pull the look together seamlessly and unexpectedly.

Screen Shot 2014-07-05 at 1.15.26 PM

A favorite from this spring’s High Point Market, Hocus Pocus takes its inspiration from one of our best-selling pieces Smoke and Mirrors. The imported Italian smoked mirrored doors are an instant conversation starter, and that hardware … simply divine.

Screen Shot 2014-07-05 at 1.15.03 PM

Sociables is Caracole’s largest and most dramatic cocktail table. An unexpectedly warm Taupe Silver Leaf finish has been applied to the metal base, bringing elegance with it wherever it goes.

We love our Caracole glam,  but they surprised us with another, softer side:  Organic and artful, yet sleek and stylish, the neutrality of the Cat’s Meow sofa lets us have fun mixing and matching and changing up the pillows all the time!

The texture and color exude calm, while the shape is more modern and edgy–You’ve got a lot of options with this one! They also have so many customizable options you can check out on their site: http://www.caracole.com/home
