Dining By Design

This year we were proud to be a sponsor of DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) when they partnered with Gift For Life at the recent NY NOW Show in January.  DIFFA is such a wonderful organization and is one of the largest funders of HIV/AIDS service in the U.S.

For the last 18 years DIFFA has hosted Dining By Design, where each year some of the most talented designers transform a raw space into a stunning, over-the-top dining environment.  It is co-located with the Architectural Digest Home Show so you know you will see some of the best designs from icons in the home and design industry. We absolutely love when giving back and design come together to make a beautiful event.

We are so excited to attend this year’s Cocktails By Design and can’t wait to see what table creations we will see from companies like Kravet, ESSIE, Arteriors, Ralph Lauren Home, Beacon Hill, Anthropologie and more!

These are some of our favorites from 2014!

Pantone: Spring Breaker Approved!

Screen Shot 2015-03-02 at 1.02.14 PM

Pantone’s Color Palette for Spring 2015 is Spring Breaker approved– soft, warm tones have us wishing beachy weather would arrive sooner rather than later, but until that day comes, we can at least create interiors that reflect our desire for warmer weather!

We’re turning to our friends at Four Hands for their soothing Spring neutrals! Four Hand’s Van Thiel line has the high-quality shabby-chic look we go for in crafting the perfect upscale, but comfortable and functional sun room or dinning area.

Rugs are one of the best ways to integrate pops of color to offset neutrals. Jaipur Rugs have bright, bold patterns–absolutely perfect for this year’s Spring palette. These cheery rugs demand to be the focal point of every room they’re in and make it impossible not to smile. Many of their rugs are also perfectly transitional — indoor and out!

For a softer look, that still adds color to your Springy interior, Leftbank Art’s Giclee Spring Harvest collection is sharp and elegant.

All three of these companies work wonderfully with designers and are always ahead of the curve– They’re definitely companies to keep on your designer radar and will be ones to watch at upcoming Design Camp events!

Red Carpet Style for Your Home!

In light of last night’s Academy Awards, we (like everyone else) were taken by the gorgeous fashions that graced the red carpet. We’ve noticed a number of fashions trends that are not just limited to clothing, but also noticeable in the home furnishing industry! We’ve highlighted some of our favorite looks and ways to bring some red carpet style into your home!

Lupita Nyong’o stole the show in a custom Calvin Klein Collection decked head to toe in 6000 pearls. Pearls – like those in this Noir Furniture chandelier – add a bit of Hollywood Glamour to every interior.

Jewel tones were a trend on the red carpet. Scarlett Johansson dazzled in emerald Versace and Best Actor Winner, Eddie Redmayne rocked a royal blue Alexander McQueen suit.

Worlds Away makes elegant use of jewel tones in their lacquer and gold leaf pieces perfect for an upscale, eclectic interior.

Screen Shot 2015-02-23 at 2.54.19 PM

Naomi Watts’ sparkly, geometric Armani gown reminded us of a cool Tile Bar back splash — like Kelli’s new line that will add a perfect Tinsle Town Twinkle to your LA-inspired kitchen.

Oscar nominee, Emma Stone topped many best dressed lists in Ellie Saab. Only the most sophisticated of aesthetics can make limes and chartruse work–like this modern accent chair from Sunpan Modern Home!

Screen Shot 2015-02-23 at 2.59.51 PM

And of course we always love reds on the red carpet! Some of this year’s Oscar looks were most certainly inspired by the Pantone Color of the Year like Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike stunning in Givenchy Haute Couture, Lady Gaga’s funky gloves paired with her Azzedine Alaia gown, or David Oyelowo’s show-stopping Dolce & Gabbana suit!

Design Inspiration can really come from anywhere! For your daily dose, follow us on Instagram! And be sure to register for upcoming Design Camp Events before spots fill up!

The Color of Love!

With Valentines Day just around the corner, we are feeling extra inspired by the new Pantone Color of the Year (Marsala!) and other eye-popping shades of red. We’ve perused the trades to find our favorite Valentine-Inspired products for the home because what better way to add a little romance in your house?!

A great way to integrate reds with subtlety is with a popping accent chair– like one of these pieces below. The Selamat Regent Arm Chair is perfect for an upscale shabby-chic San Fran flat, while Phillips Co’s seatbelt chair is a little more rock and roll.

Fermob’s bistro chairs are a classic favorite of ours and are perfect for romantic outdoor dinning. And Bungalow5 always surprises us with Eastern-inspired shapes and patterns– their feminine hourglass side table is no exception. It comes in a variety of finishes, but this firey red is pretty irresistible!

Lamps Plus is really tugging at our heart strings with this Chianti Glass Chandelier. We love a good statement light fixture, especially one that draws the eye upward! These adorable swivel chairs from Sunpan Modern Home are incredibly versatile: We’ve seen them used as both occasional chairs and around a dinning table.

How about snuggling with your honey on a sexy Natuzzi couch. It’s not only stylish and bold, but extremely comfortable! LOVE the lavish goose feather cushions and layer of memory foam. Leftbank Art has us in the mood for love with a cute little number, appropriately titled: Punch Drunk Love.

image001We’re anxious to know what you think of the Pantone color of the year–Is it a good year-round color or merely occasional? Tell us what you think!

And it wouldn’t be Valentine’s day without a little love poem so here’s one of our favorites to put you in the mood!  Happy Valentine’s Day! <3

Spreading the News on NY NOW!

IMG_7160Of all the markets, trade shows, and conventions, New York Now has perhaps the largest variety of gifts, accessories, and house ware products. From bedazzled dog collars to stunning chandeliers, we covered it all and spotted some emerging trends.

IMG_7129There were some super stylish beds at the Javits Center–We’ve highlighted the best. Made Goods, an old favorite of ours, known for their accessories and accent pieces premiered some beautiful new bed frames at NY Now and they do not disappoint!

IMG_7124We also discovered a newbie, Pom Pom at Home whose designs are delicate and transitional. We had a chance to chat with the designer, who posed with her favorite new pieces for us! She described their designs as “lived in” and “Casual,” and that’s exactly it—We felt right at home, ready to curl up and take a nap!

Screen Shot 2015-02-06 at 3.18.09 PMA general market favorite was John Robshaw—Now if only we all had the Robshaw merchandisers to make our beds every morning!

A trend that stood out to us was all of the rustic, shabby-chic kitchenware. We couldn’t help but begin designing an imaginary country kitchen, pulling inspiration from Roost and Europe 2 You.

Euro2 Roost

For a more polished, formal living room we drew inspiration from the eclectic designs of Zodax accessories and Bungalow 5 furniture.

Bungalow1 Zodax1

The furniture designers of Worlds Away and Emporium Home sat down with us to discuss their favorite new pieces—Both of them chose chairs. From the designer to your home – the comfy and elegant accent chair is in (was it ever out?)!

When it came to finding our favorite lighting, the competition was fierce—a number of vendors premiered some beautiful new lighting collections but we were finally able to narrow our favorites:

MichaelAram-DesignerFavRo Sham Beaux’s incredible wall sconces and chandeliers made it hard to choose just one! Theses beaded beauties come in a variety of colors and sizes and Ro’ is super designer-friendly!

Dynamic designer Michael Aram’s new pendants make a huge statement! These lights belong in the foyer of every beautiful home. Aram is global, eclectic designer and it certainly shows!

It was Noir Furniture that was the celebrity fav at NY Now. HGTV Design Star winner, Danielle Colding stopped by and shared some of her Noir favorites with us-namely some of their gorgeous new seating and hand sculpture accessories.

And XOXO, Gossip Girl was in the house – Friends from Westbrock Home snapped this pap-style shot of Blake Lively shopping Noir–She loved the Rain Chandelier and the Berninni Desk!

By now you are likely familiar with Selamat Designs, the San Fran-based furniture manufacturer that not only crafts high-quality product, but owners Shannon and Thatcher Davis also work hard to minimize their carbon footprint.

eclectic-living-roomThe Selamat aesthetic is reflective of their mission statement: earthy and bright–which we have been head over heels for for years! Recently, they released a new line for formal living, a slight detour from their usual boho chic. We absolutely LOVE it and are anxiously anticipating their Tangier collection due out this year! Visit their site and take a look.

It Happened In Vegas…

Screen Shot 2015-01-21 at 5.34.02 PMBetween Design Camp and KBIS, we had a busy week at the World Market Center in Las Vegas! Camp kicked off with a beautiful vegetarian brunch in the Jaipur Rugs showroom. After a crazy day, shopping and insta-hunting around market, campers reconvened for a seminar from Lori and Kelli. Then camp concluded with a cocktail party at the Natuzzi showroom where campers had a chance to mix and mingle with fellow designers and vendors from around market.

Screen Shot 2015-01-21 at 5.34.15 PMDirectly following camp was Kelli’s off-the-hook launch party for her new Tile Bar tile line– a huge hit. KBIS was full of beautiful creative innovations in the kitchen and bath design industry.
